Hope Town Sailing Club, Abaco, Bahamas

Hope Town Sailing Club Racing

We are all looking forward to rebuilding both cruising class and dinghy racing this winter. There will be an emphasis on participation, learning, and fun this year . With that in mind, a schedule is being developed and with your help we will have a successful 2023-2024 season - please review the Calendar of events on the home page under the Racing tab. Check sub directories for Race Results and photos

While sail boat racing holds a special place in the hearts and minds of many HTSC members, Club membership is open to anyone who dinghies, sails,  powerboats, dreams about boating or remembers their boating history. Your visits to and the connections with and support of the Abacos and its beautiful waters is what binds us all together.

Racing is open to members and non-members alike. Participating in a fun race as skipper, crew, or race volunteer , will enable you to enjoy the thrill of a great start, getting across the finish line, being movable ballast or just the camaraderie of a salty experience. Our Race Committee is very participant-friendly and will communicate and assist novice racers to get around the course safely.

Cruising Sailboat Racing

Join the Hope Town Sailing Club for fun days of racing during its winter racing schedule. The Hope Town Sailing Club invites cruising sailboats of all sizes and types to join us for any or all of scheduled regattas and cup races.

The races are open to HTSC members and non-members alike. There is no entry fee. Your boat will be given a handicap using PHRF and Portsmouth as a guideline. You will be racing with a most eclectic fleet: mono-hulls, multihulls, sloops, schooners, ketches, catboats all race together with the emphasis on fun competition. Charterers that wish to race are encouraged to join the fun too.

Please visit the Cruising Boat Racing website page here. The 2023-2024 Race Schedule is developing and more information on participating, race dates, Cups, and getting a handicap can be found there. Racing is always weather permitting and the latest information can be found on the HTSC Facebook page or the Cruiser’s Net, VHF 68 @ 8:15 am.

Dinghy Racing

Our objective is to hold Dinghy  races this winter There is no entry fee and you do not need to be a club member to participate.

There are many beautiful Abaco Dinghies identified in the Hope Town area, and several have raced in the Club's Dinghy Series. Many were older craft that had been restored and there are several more recently built using traditional methods.

Sunday racing is open to Abaco Dinghies, Sunfish, Optimist Dinghies and 420's.  This will involve piecing together boats that were damaged in hurricane Dorian. If you have parts of any of these fleets and would like to sell or donate, please contact us. See Dinghy Racing page, for rules and guidelines governing these events.
