Managing Medical Emergencies in Hope Town 2011

In event of an emergency in Hope Town:

1) Call for the HT Fire & Rescue on vhf channel 16. Describe the nature of the problem and the location of the patient. They have trained technicians to administer immediate care and will contact the local nurse. (Phone: 366-0108)

2) Be sure to have with you important documents: passport, health information including medications, cash, credit cards, cell phone or family contacts, etc at all times!

3) If transport to physician in Marsh Harbour is necessary, HTFR will take person to Marsh by boat and arrange for transfer to doctor.
a) Auskell Medical Centre (private, for profit) now has physicians 24/7. Business hours: 367-0020   After 8 PM weekdays and after 4 PM Sat & Sun: 577-0113    Pre-registration is available for $15 year!                                                    (They are located on the left 2 blocks beyond stoplight in Marsh Harbour)
b) Government Clinic has 2 MDs 24/7: 367-2510
They are located on left airport road before Pinewoods Nursery
c) Private physicians (Dr. Hull and Dr. Boyce) see their patients during business hours only.
d) NOTE: Corbett Clinic in Treasure Cay no longer has a physician.

4) If evacuation is indicated, physician will arrange for receiving hospital admission (US or Nassau) and transportation from Marsh Harbour airport (unless chopper evacuation Is possible from island site).  These are essentially your 3 best options:
a. Doctors Hospital in Nassau (closer, excellent in some specialties)
b
. Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL (954-410-4406). Provides approved admission, option of chopper transfer if indicated from Hope Town or MOW at your cost ($25k).
c. West Palm, FL (St Mary's for brain issue or Palm Beach Garden Medical Center for cardiac problem). Protocol is being developed.
