RACING AT ITS FINEST!

The first point to point race of the season was a HUGE success with 15(!) cruising boats participating in 10-15 knots of easterly wind. The large number of diverse sailboats made for awesome competition, especially at the starting line. After a windward start, the course then continued on to Sandy and Garden Cays, where racers rounded the islands twice before returning to the finish. For the second time this season, Al Shapiro skippering Quest, won the day's race and was awarded the Charles P. Manchee Trophy. Dave Hanafourde (Second Wind) was second on corrected time, followed by Jay Evans (Sundog) in third.

The next exciting HTSC regatta, for the William Giles Trophy, also known as the Hope Town Cup, consists of two days of racing on Wednesday, February 8th, and Friday, February 10th.

HTSC 50th Anniversary is just around the corner!!! We need your help!

In conjunction with the History Project of the HTSC, the Race Committee would like to collect information about the 16 trophies that adorn the walls and trophy case. We have partial information about the more recent trophies, but the older trophies must have some great stories connected with them. Who commissioned the trophies? Who built them? Were they made for a special occasion? Tell us about the people, and any interesting stories about the trophies. Please send information to svankersaway@aol.com or gsholloway@earthlink.net, or snail mail the information to George Holloway,    6086 N. Flowage Rd., Conover WI 54519. Make this your summer project!!
